• Whats your process?

Our process differs from project to project. Depending on the type of wood, age of wood, and type of product previously applied. Normally our process includes…

    • Chemical stripper/brightener - The first step in our process is to apply a chemical to all parts of the deck to gently loosen the existing paint or stain, and enhance the power washing process. This biodegradable compound is safe to be used around your plants, grass and pets.

    • Power Washing - Secondly we use a pressure washer to remove all dirt and grime on the deck's surfaces, as well as to remove most of the old paint/stain.  After pressure washing we wait a minimum of 24 hours depending on the weather to ensure that the wood had reached a moisture content of 12% or less.

    • Sanding - If necessary, when the wood is dry, we sand necessary items to remove any remaining paint or stain. To also smooth the rough surface of the wood, prevent splinters, and open pores in the wood to better absorb your new stain. This is a premium service that leaves the wood looking restored and new.

    • Paint/staining - Finally we apply your color of choice stain/paint to your project. We always apply products with brushes, never with a sprayer: to ensure a long-lasting, even finish.  We set tarps/drop cloths to ensure 0 spills under your deck and on your siding. This final step creates a beautiful outdoor area, ready to be enjoyed.

  • How often does my deck need to be refinished?

Every 2-5 years. Depending on the type of wood, condition of wood, sun exposure, and foot traffic

  • Is your company insured?

Yes, we are insured. A certificate is available upon request.

  • Why do you prefer staining instead of painting my deck?

    • Maintenance in the future - Applying a paint on exterior wood is prone to chipping, peeling, and cracking. With Minnesota’s harsh Winters and humid summers, paint wears quickly which causes maintenance to be frequent and expensive. Staining simply fades over time, which causes the maintenance to be cheaper and less frequent.

    • Health of wood decays faster with paint- Paint simply sticks on top of the wood and can trap moisture inside. This causes the wood to rot and decay faster. Stain soaks into the wood and allows the wood to breathe while still protecting against UV rays.

    • The natural wood grain aesthetic - The beautiful wood grain that natural wood has is desired by many. Paint has a uniformed appearance that hides the natural beauty of wood. While stain enhances the natural look and leaves you with a beautiful finish.

  • Will you damage our deck with pressure washing?

  • No. We are highly trained and do not damage your wood.

  • Do I need to be home for you to work on our deck?

  • No, unless you prefer to be. We can safely climb up and down the deck with our ladder.

  • How long do I need to stay off of my deck after you stain/paint?

  • 24 hours. Wait no less than 24 hours to walk on your deck and no less than 48 hours to set furniture.

  • Do you hand apply the stain/paint?

  • Yes. We always hand apply with a brush to make an even and long lasting finish. Brush applying stain/paint takes longer than a spray/roller, but is necessary to ensure a quality job.

  • What type of payment do you take?

  • Check, bank transfers, cash, credit card, and mobile payment apps.
